Fundraising in Support of The Alzheimer's Society

I have worked in Long Term Care for 5 years and have experienced firsthand the effects of dementia and Alzheimer's has on residents and their families. Knowing how serious this disease is and how it can affect so many people inspired my decision to raise funds and awareness for my local society.

This is the last photo ever taken with my grandma, Esther. She suffered from Dementia. If you knew her, you'd know that she was always smiling and laughing, and this picture doesn't depict my grandma at all. She had lost her zest, her smile, her pizazz, and lust for life. Prior to her death, she was living in a care home for patients with dementia and was apart from her husband, my grandfather. Visits at this point were no longer what I had been used to growing up. The woman and grandma I knew and loved was fading away from us, and the decline was rapid.

This foundation is very dear to my heart, and I am passionate about raising funds to contribute to finding a cure in our lifetime.

I have worked with seniors with Alzheimer’s and Dementia for 4 years and have seen the struggles that these diseases can cause which is what pushed me to help my local charity. These diseases not only effect the patients but the family as well and I want to be able to help and support as many people as possible through raising funds for a great cause. By doing so I hope that this money will go towards finding treatments for Alzheimer’s and Dementia so no one else has to live through it.

Working in long-term care and doing placement with the Alzheimer’s Society I have got to see first-hand the impact the Alzheimer’s Society of Lanark Leeds and Grenville has on our community. Following my volunteer time with the adult day programs I realized how much relief these programs and services have for caregivers. I advocate for the stigma surrounding Alzheimer’s disease and inspire that one day we will live in a dementia friendly society. With my experience with the Alzheimer’s Society and the working closely with residents and their love ones suffering from this disease has motivated me to take initiative on raising money for my local Alzheimer’s Society. My personal goal is to raise $500 to contribute to my group. 

Hi I’m Kayla! For several years I watched my grandmother live with dementia. Knowing what this disease does to people makes me eager to fundraise and raise awareness about Alzheimer’s. I have worked in 1 retirement home in the dementia care unit and loved every part of the job and getting to make people happy and feel included. I am excited and eager to work with my team and raise funds for such a great cause!
